SS: Elaborate

SS: Earlier this evening, my scans caught wind of particularly concentrated spellweaving while on patrol-
MS: I know what you’re getting at is important but
SS: Go on
MS: Maker this is a stupid question
MS: how does a spaceship smell magic
MS: I feel like those two things aren’t conceptually compatible
SS: Strictly speaking magic isn’t real
MS: look I know that actual humans can’t turn into clouds of gnats at will and that dragons are just complete bullshit
MS: I’m not that stupid and more importantly I know how to google
SS: Do you want a crash course on basic metatextual physics or not, soldier?
HC: Now certainly strikes me as a most inopportune time to suddenly start caring about the topic, after years of falling asleep during my lectures.
MS: I’m just hung up on the phrase “my scans caught wind of particularly concentrated spellweaving ” I don’t think that that’s so unforgivable
HC: I suppose I can respect the honest desire to excarnate ignorance, for perhaps it is in our most dire hours that we come to appreciate wisdom the most.
HC: But first, we need to talk about parallel universes.
–margraveSteel [MS] ceased partying–
HC:
HC:
HC:
HC:
HC: Honestly I don’t know what I expected.
SS: ON YOUR FEET RECRUIT!
–margraveSteel [MS] rejoined the party–
MS: Jane I had a horrible dream
SS: It’s over now
MS: Jace was talking
SS: I know
MS: :|(
SS: It’s going to be ok
HC:…
SS: But I need you to stay awake for this next part, alright?
SS: What I, and I’m sure in several weeks, Jace, was getting around to saying is:
SS: When you perform a ‘magical’ feat in here, you’re really just manipulating code to create the desired effect
SS: Incredibly quickly, subconsciously, and without a computer or other interface, but fundamentally you’re rewriting the surrounding programming all the same
SS: For example, when I lift someone up with my biotics, I’m not using telekinesis, I’m temporarily interacting with the system and changing the rules about how the simulated gravity should affect that person
SS: I’m programming far faster than my conscious mind would know how to express or more importantly would be traditionally useful in combat
SS: When you heal someone or light something on fire with ‘magic’, you’re interacting with the code too-
MS: but-
SS: YES, even though you wouldn’t know a logic loop from Adam if your life depended on it
SS: What I’m trying to say is, it’s pretty easy to look at the code we live in, if you know how,
SS: And when a lot of it changes very quickly?
MS: ‘concentrated spellweaving’
SS: Right
HC: If you’re quite satisfied Marian, I’m sure we’re equally curious about what bearing Jane’s findings have on your personal grudge and/or the nature of our reality.
